Köppen’s climate subdivisions

Af (Tropical Wet) - associated with tropical rainforests

 

 

 

 

 

Aw (Tropical Wet & Dry) - receives seasonal precipitation associated with tropical savanna.

 

 

 

 

 

Am (Tropical Monsoon)

 

 

 

 

 

BW (Arid) - associated with deserts

 

 

 

 

 

 

BS (Steppe) - associated with semi-arid deserts, grasslands

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Csa (Mediterranean) - associated with oak woodlands, grasslands, chaparral

 

 

 

 

 

 

Cfb (Marine West Coast) - associated with mid latitude mixed evergreen forests coniferous [cone-bearing] and deciduous [leaves fall-off] trees

 

 

 

 

 

 

Cfa (Humid Subtropical) - associated with deciduous and non-deciduous trees (mangrove, magnolia, cypress, mossy oak trees)

 

 

 

 

 

 

Dfa (Humid Continental) - all but needle-leaf trees defoliate, warm summers

 

 

 

 

 

Dfb (Humid Continental) - all but needle-leaf trees defoliate, cool summers

 

 

 

 

Dfc (Subartic) - associated with the boreal or taiga forests of single stands of trees such as the firs or spruce tree

 

 

 

 

 

ET (Tundra) - no trees, rolling grasslands covered with snow throughout most of the year; at least 1 month of above freezing temperatures.

 

 

 

 

 

EF (Icecaps) - constant ice and snow; temperatures never exceed freezing.

 

 

 

 

 

H (Highlands) - unique climates based on their elevation
